Overview

Boulder Orthotics specializes in custom orthotics like custom footbeds, prescription orthotics and custom boot fitting.  All products are fabricated in-house using medical grade materials, and  handcrafted specifically to each individual’s needs. A hands-on foot and gait analysis and dynamic footprint evaluation are performed initially to determine the best type of orthosis for the client. We also discuss proper shoe and boot sizing, the importance of a quality shoe/boot and the reasons why specific attributes are important for each individual.

In most cases, clients will leave their 2 hour appointment with a custom molded handmade orthotic in the shoe.

Medical Clients

I work closely with referring doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists and acupuncturists to best help their patients reach optimal care. The goal is greater comfort, improved stability and better gait alignment, all of which contribute significantly to overall body dynamics, better posture and body alignment from the ground up.

Our clients have eliminated foot, knee, and back pain, improved their posture, and now find walking, hiking, running, cycling and skiing more efficient and fun because their foot support and footwear are working for them.

Some of the foot conditions treated include plantar fasciitis, pronation & supination, metatarsalgia, Morton’s Neuroma, shin splints, Achilles tendonitis and more.

Sports Clients

I work with all levels of athletes, from once-a-weekers to once-a-day enthusiasts and competitive athletes. Clients are evaluated not just with an eye for their comfort, but with understanding of the demands of their particular sport or desire for performance. Most of my sport clients contact Boulder Orthotics directly, but many are referred as patients by medical professionals, from orthopedics to acupuncturists.

Sport footbeds and orthotics can address a range of concerns successfully, from general foot discomfort and specific alignment issues to improved energy transfer and increased performance through a more precise fitting shoe or boot.

Custom Orthotics

Boulder Orthotics & Boot Fitting uses a modernized approach to personalized foot care solutions. Our custom orthotics are designed with a keen understanding that every foot is unique, both in structure and function.

With a commitment to precision and a passion for promoting optimal foot health, Boulder Orthotics & Boot Fitting ensures that each orthotic device is crafted and tailored to the needs of the individual. These specialized insoles aren’t just about providing cushion or generic arch support. They are about addressing the individual’s unique biomechanics, offering precise alignment, and ensuring optimal weight distribution.

One of the easiest ways to improve your posture and walking gait is through a well-made custom orthotic. A shoe insert that’s specifically tailored to your foot can make a world of difference in terms of comfort, performance, and overall foot health. By aligning the foot in its optimal position and redistributing pressure points, custom orthotics can alleviate pain, reduce the risk of injuries, and enable a more natural, efficient gait.

Whether you’re an athlete looking for that extra edge in performance, working on your feet all day, or recovering from an injury, Boulder Orthotics & Boot Fitting can help. We bring expertise and dedication to the table.

Gait Analysis

Gait analysis delves deep into the study of human motion, focusing predominantly on the patterns and intricacies of walking and running. This examination seeks to understand the alignment, rhythm, and biomechanics of your unique stride while walking or running.

Through observing and analyzing an individual’s movement, gait analysis reveals details about how our bodies distribute weight, how our feet strike the ground, and how our joints move in coordination. Each step tells a story, highlighting potential imbalances, inefficiencies, or areas that might be prone to strain or injury. These nuances in our movement, subtle as they might seem, play a crucial role in our overall musculoskeletal health.

An analysis of your gait helps us create a custom orthotics specially designed for you. These are insoles for shoes tailored to support and address individual foot and lower limb anomalies. The gait analysis is crucial to customizing inserts and insoles. Without proper gait analysis, a custom insole may not have much effect, and may actually negatively impact your foot health.

By analyzing an individual’s gait, we pinpoint areas where intervention is needed and ensure that the orthotic is comfortable and therapeutic. Custom orthotics can alleviate pain, correct imbalances, and prevent further injuries by realigning foot mechanics and redistributing pressures. Gait analysis serves as a foundational blueprint, guiding the design and creation of orthotics that resonate with an individual’s unique biomechanics.

Ski Boot Fitting

Ski boot fitting, in the eyes of a seasoned boot fitter, is a delicate blend of expertise and precision, aiming to harmonize performance with comfort when you are on the slopes. Every skier, whether novice or expert, brings a unique foot shape and skiing style, making finding that perfect boot-to-foot connection imperative.

Over the years, we’ve observed that the right boot can significantly impact a skier’s experience. A well-fitted boot ensures better control, improved power transfer, and, most importantly, increased comfort, allowing the skier to engage with the mountain and enjoy every turn fully.

Ski boot fitting goes well beyond merely measuring the foot’s size. It’s about understanding the intricacies of foot anatomy, the skier’s biomechanics, and the technical aspects of the boot itself. Every foot tells a story, and as boot fitters, it’s our responsibility to listen, analyze, and respond. By utilizing specialized tools and techniques, we mold and adjust the boot’s inner liner and shell to mirror the foot’s contours, addressing pressure points and ensuring optimal alignment. It’s a meticulous process that demands both patience and expertise. Witnessing a skier glide down the slopes with ease, grace, and confidence, thanks to a perfectly fitted boot, makes it all worthwhile!

Boot/Shoe Stretching

Boot stretching is a meticulous task combining the art of craftsmanship and the science of foot anatomy. Over time, we’ve come to appreciate the uniqueness of each shoe, especially hiking boots, with their distinct blend of materials and design. Often, the naturally binding nature of leather can make a hiking boot feel restrictive, sometimes causing discomfort to its wearer. While many people love their boots, the need for a better fit becomes evident when discomfort or foot pain begins to happen.

This is where expertise in boot stretching comes in. Successful boot stretching is rooted in understanding the foot’s structure and the shoe material’s behavior. The aim isn’t merely to expand the shoe but to shape it to align with the foot’s natural curves, ensuring comfort without distorting the shoe’s design. Using specialized tools, we carefully apply pressure to specific areas of the boot. This helps in achieving the desired fit while preserving the shoe’s integrity. It’s essential to approach the task patiently, as hurried stretching can lead to unintended damage.

At Boulder Orthotics, the real reward is seeing the comfort and satisfaction of clients as they experience the improved fit of their cherished boots.
